Billing

Subscriptions, sending usage, invoices and cancellation.

Current pricing

Every account starts on the free plan: one domain, two inboxes, 50 sending recipients and 250 received emails per rolling 30 days, with no card and no expiry.

New subscriptions are $9/month or $90/year upfront, with unlimited domains and inboxes, 5 GB storage, 5,000 received emails and 500 sending recipients per billing month. The first 20 subscribers pay the founder price, $5/month, for as long as they stay subscribed. Extra sending costs $0.003/recipient and receiving costs $0.0005/email, funded with prepaid credit. VAT is added on top. See prepaid sending.

Free plan

Every workspace starts on the free plan as soon as you sign up: one domain and two email addresses, with no card and no expiry. There is nothing to claim.

The FREE badge in the app opens Billing, where you can see usage:

Free allowanceShared across both inboxes
Sending50 recipient deliveries per rolling 30 days, at most 20 per rolling 24 hours
Receiving250 messages per rolling 30 days
Email storage budget250 MB cumulative, including raw mail and extracted content
Message sizeUp to 10 MB of stored content, including extracted attachments

To, Cc, Bcc, forwarding copies and forwarding-verification emails count toward sending. Reservations happen before contacting the provider; an uncertain/failed attempt can still count. Deleting messages or resources does not refill the storage budget.

When you reach a limit

MailMoose emails the workspace owner when sending, receiving or storage reaches 80%, 90% and 100% of the free allowance. Each warning goes out at most once in 30 days.

When receiving or storage is full, or a message is over 10 MB, new email is held instead of delivered to your inbox:

  • You get one email a day at most, saying how many emails are waiting and who the latest is from.
  • The person who sent a held email gets a short notice that it hasn't been delivered yet, at most once a day for each of your addresses. Only senders whose domain passed SPF or DMARC get one; spam, newsletters, mailing lists and automatic replies never do. The notice ends with a short ad for MailMoose; it never mentions your plan.
  • When you upgrade, held email is delivered to your inbox within a few minutes. Held email that is no longer in intake storage by then can't be delivered.

While you stay on the free plan, held email stays held. New email starts arriving again once older messages pass 30 days, unless storage is full.

Upgrade in Settings → Billing for unlimited domains and inboxes and the paid allowances. The paid plan replaces the free limits; it is not added on top of them. When paid access ends, the workspace returns to the free plan and its limits. Existing domains, inboxes and mail stay, but adding more needs room on the free plan or a new subscription.

Once you upgrade, the FREE badge becomes a gold PRO badge. Complimentary operator-managed access shows PRO too, and Billing identifies it explicitly.

Usage billing

The new subscription is $9/month or $90/year paid upfront, including unlimited domains and email addresses, 5,000 received emails, 500 outgoing recipients per billing month, and 5 GB storage. Eligible founders pay $5/month or $50/year. VAT is added on top.

Prepaid sending

Add 2,000 extra recipients for $6 + VAT in Settings → Billing. This is a one-time card payment, not a recurring add-on. No credit is granted until Stripe confirms payment. There are no automatic top-ups or unpaid sending overages.

The 500 included recipients reset each billing month, including annual plans. Extra sends use prepaid credit at $0.003 per recipient. Unused prepaid sends carry over; using them requires an active subscription. When both allowances are empty, sending pauses. Receiving has its own allowance and credit balance; reading existing mail remains available. The subscription minimum remains payable even with no sends.

The plan card at the top of Settings → Billing shows included usage, prepaid credit available and pending attempts for the current billing month. Unconfirmed sends reserve allowance/credit until resolved, so retries cannot spend it twice. Partial provider acceptance releases unused prepaid credit. Refunds or disputes revoke the affected top-up and pause sending for review. Historical metered usage from before this change may still appear on its final Stripe invoice; new prepaid sends are never also reported as metered usage.

Receiving usage

5,000 mailbox deliveries are included each billing month, shared across all domains and inboxes. An email delivered to two MailMoose addresses counts as two deliveries. Spam delivered into Spam counts; unknown recipients and held mail do not. Provider retries count once. Deleted messages, inboxes and domains do not erase usage.

Extra receiving costs $0.0005 per delivery. Buy 10,000 extra deliveries for $5 + VAT in Billing. Receiving and sending credit are separate. Unused credit carries over with an active subscription; included allowances reset monthly, including yearly subscriptions. At zero allowance and credit, new mail is held in intake, not delivered. Contact support promptly for recovery; intake retention is limited and recovery is not automatic. An expired subscription cannot continue receiving as a paid account; it returns to the free plan's allowances.

Limit emails

MailMoose emails the workspace owner when sending, receiving or storage reaches 80%, 90% and 100% of what's available. For sending and receiving, that includes your prepaid credit, so a warning means you really are close to being blocked. Each warning goes out once per billing month, and buying credit starts a new set. Storage warnings go out at most once in 30 days. The hourly sending limit has no warning: a refused send says so on the spot, and the limit clears within the hour.

Monthly history and invoices

Billing shows separate sending and receiving progress bars, included units, extra units, the rate, credit consumed, and remaining prepaid balances. An app notice warns when available capacity is running low.

Open Monthly history for each recorded billing month. Expand a period to see its included allowances, sent/received totals, extra units and exact prepaid credit consumed. Rates and period boundaries are saved with that period, not recalculated from future pricing. Sending counts provider-accepted recipients, not guaranteed inbox delivery. Unknown sending outcomes stay reserved pending reconciliation. Receiving is counted only when the email and attachment records are successfully stored. New receiving tracking is not a retrospective charge for earlier mail; the history shows its tracking start.

Open Invoices & payment details to view/download Stripe invoices in a new tab. Subscription invoices show the upfront subscription. Top-up invoices show the quantity purchased × unit price ($0.003 sending / $0.0005 receiving), plus VAT. They invoice purchased capacity, not a second charge for its later consumption. For example, 10,000 receiving credits cost $5; using 2,000 extras consumes $1 of that credit, with 8,000 remaining. There is no second $1 invoice. Monthly history and invoice totals can differ because unused credit carries into later months. Stripe invoices remain authoritative for taxes, payments and refunds. Historical metered usage from the previous model is separate from new prepaid consumption.

Storage and fair use

Paid accounts include 5 GB (5,000,000,000 bytes) of shared email storage. The monthly receiving allowance and prepaid balance apply separately. Storage covers retained raw mail, extracted bodies and attachments, and saved outbound content. Legacy messages use a conservative estimate until reconciled against their stored files. Failed/uncertain processing may retain a reservation for operator reconciliation.

Billing shows storage usage; app warnings appear at 80% and 95%. At capacity, new mail is held in the AWS intake bucket, not delivered into the inbox. Contact support promptly to free space, recover held mail or arrange extra storage. Recovery depends on intake retention and is not guaranteed. No inbox mail is automatically deleted to make room. Confirmed inbox/domain file cleanup releases paid storage; failed cleanup does not. The free plan has its own 250 MB cumulative storage and 250-incoming-per-30-days allowances.

Sending is initially limited to 100 recipients per rolling hour per account. Higher rates require operator review. A spam complaint, sustained hard bounces, payment reversal or platform incident can pause sending. Incoming bursts above the configured safety threshold are held for review. These limits protect all customers and cannot be bypassed with extra domains, keys or prepaid credit.

Open Invoices & payment details for Stripe invoices in a new tab. Use Cancel renewal to stop renewal while keeping your prepaid subscription term. Only the owner can change billing or buy prepaid email credit.

Start a subscription

Only the workspace owner can subscribe. Your private workspace is created automatically when you sign up; you do not need to name or create an organization first. Open Settings → Billing, choose monthly or yearly billing and continue to Stripe Checkout. The pricing card on the homepage does the same, carrying your choice through sign-up. The founder price is applied at Checkout while places are left.

Review the final price, including applicable VAT, before paying. Stripe collects your billing address and offers a business tax-ID field to determine the applicable treatment. The plan unlocks after MailMoose verifies the payment with Stripe, not merely after you return from Checkout.

If payments are not connected, paid checkout stays disabled. The free plan and complimentary access can still use their allowances. Contact the service operator; do not enter payment details elsewhere.

Change your capacity

There is no domain or inbox capacity to buy: the paid plan includes unlimited domains and inboxes, and deleting one does not change the price. For more sending or receiving than a month includes, add prepaid credit; see prepaid sending and receiving usage.

If Billing looks stale after a payment, use Refresh subscription status.

Receipts and payment details

Use Invoices & payment details ↗ to open Stripe’s secure customer portal in a new tab. View and download invoices and available receipts, or update payment details there. Only the owner can open these controls. Invoices appear after your first payment. Receipt availability and automated receipt delivery depend on the operator’s Stripe configuration.

An active subscription is not required to access past invoices. If your account has no Stripe billing history, MailMoose shows No invoices yet. Team members need the workspace owner to manage billing.

Cancel your subscription

Use Cancel renewal in Billing. Your plan stays active until the end of the paid period; check the access-end date in MailMoose.

After paid access ends, the workspace returns to the free plan and must fit its capacity and quotas. Existing mail is not deleted by cancellation. Cancellation is not a domain deletion or an automatic shutdown of incoming-mail processing.

Billing is not a sending quota

Sending usage

Billing shows used and remaining sending. The paid plan includes 500 recipients per billing month, shared across all domains, inboxes and API keys, and extra sends use prepaid credit. The free plan includes 50 recipients per rolling 30 days. The app warns when the allowance runs low and stops sending when it is used up; receiving stays available within its own safeguards.

Adding domains or inboxes does not increase sending capacity. See sending limits.

Complimentary access

An organization explicitly granted complimentary access shows $0 — no subscription required in Billing. Paid domain and inbox limits do not apply, and checkout is disabled. This is an operator-managed exception, not a free plan available at signup. Normal sending limits, mailbox permissions and provider requirements still apply.

For designated complimentary owners, MailMoose checks the verified signed-in identity and owner role to restore a missing grant. This does not cancel or overwrite an existing Stripe subscription, and does not grant access to other organizations’ mail. If the organization already has a Stripe customer account, its invoices and cancellation controls remain available in Billing.

Unexpected payment message?

Check the signed-in account and selected workspace, then open Settings → Billing. Every workspace can send within the free plan's limits; more needs an active subscription or complimentary access in that workspace. If you expected access but still see a paywall, contact support rather than purchasing a duplicate subscription. Your unsent message remains in the composer; check Drafts before leaving.
